To Gargoyle Geckos, humidity is important.

Updated: Feb 25, 2020

Gargoyle geckos are easy to care for, calm, and don't need the lighting and heat requirements of many other reptiles, but humidity control is a must in their enclosures.

All you need to do to help your new gecko feel comfortable is mist their enclosure with a spray bottle once in the morning and once in the evening. The humidity should be around 80%-90% after misting and around 50% between mistings. If the humidity stays too high, you will have a problem with mold and mildew. If the humidity stays too low, your gecko will get dehydrated. When a gecko is dehydrated, it will have a problem shedding. The old skin will not come off easily. It may get stuck, which will need some help from you to remove. They will usually drink water from the droplets of water from a good misting. It is a good idea to leave a small bowl of water for them, but the mistings usually give them all the water they need.

An adult gargoyle gecko should be housed in an enclosure that is around 18"x18"x24". A taller container is better than a wider container since they like to climb.

Rhacodactylus auriculatus - aka the gargoyle gecko is a nocturnal gecko that lives in small trees close to the ground. Which makes them the perfect pet for a bioactive terrarium with live plants.
