People keep gargoyle geckos in all types of enclosures. Anything from small plastic totes for hatchlings to larger glass terrariums for adult geckos. Plastic totes are the cheapest way to keep any size gecko. As your gecko grows from a hatchling to an adult, it will be necessary to move him or her into bigger containers. But, plastic totes are not pretty. You really don't want to display your cool little friend in a plastic tote. This type of container works great for breeders since a breeder would need many containers to house hatchlings while they are waiting to be sold.

For the rest of us, terrariums are the perfect way to house gargoyle geckos. If the gecko is a juvenile, then a 12"x12"x18" tall terrarium is sufficient, but an 18"x18"x24" tall terrarium is better suited for an adult gargoyle gecko. It really does not matter whether you choose live plants or fake plants if you want to give your gecko hiding places, things to climb on, a good basking spot. and an easy way to get to the food bowl. But, if you want to create a natural looking, realistic world for your pet to be a part of, then a bioactive vivarium with tropical plants is the natural choice.

An adult gargoyle gecko should be housed in an enclosure that is around 18"x18"x24". A taller container is better than a wider container since they like to climb.

Rhacodactylus auriculatus - aka the gargoyle gecko is a nocturnal gecko that lives in small trees close to the ground. Which makes them the perfect pet for a bioactive terrarium with live plants.
