Gargoyle Gecko Facts
Rhacodactylus auriculatus - aka the gargoyle gecko is a nocturnal gecko that lives in small trees close to the ground.
They are from southern New Caledonia, an island chain near Australia.
Average adult size: 8 inches from snout to vent and around 60 grams.
Average hatchling size: 1 inch from snout to vent and around 3 grams.
Life span is 15 to 20 years.
Colors range from white, yellow, or gray to brown, orange, or red. They are usually striped or have a blotched pattern. Some are patternless.
Eyes are large, silver and contain black veins throughout. They have no eyelids so to keep their eyes moist, they will lick their eyeballs.
Their feet feel like velcro. They have the ability to climb tree limbs and branches, but they can not climb slick surfaces like glass very well.
Fired up!!! Gargoyle Geckos have the ability to change colors. If left in a dark room, they seem to try to blend into their surroundings. Their colors will be darker. The more color they show is a state called FIRED UP. When they are in a lit room for awhile, they tend to turn more white. The lighter color is called FIRED DOWN.

Terrarium design is right around the corner.
Around the middle of 2020, we will begin offering bioactive terrariums. We are searching for the best enclosures, plants, lighting, and bioactive supplies. We want to give you the best available terrarium, but we want to help you save some of your hard-earned money at the same time.
An adult gargoyle gecko should be housed in an enclosure that is around 18"x18"x24". A taller container is better than a wider container since they like to climb.
